National afforestation campaigns launched in Lattakia marking Arbor Day

Under the title “Our forests are a trust… let us preserve them,” a central celebration was held on Thursday at the Beit Zantout site in Qardaha countryside, Lattakia, on the occasion of the 72nd Arbor Day.

National afforestation campaigns were also launched in the presence of Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, the Minister of Agriculture Muhammad Hassan Qatna, the governors of Lattakia, Hama, and Tartous, and a number of heads of organizations and unions.

According to a SANA reporter, Civil, popular and youth volunteer activities, associations, and employees of government institutions and agencies are participating in the afforestation campaigns in cooperation with the cadres of the Agriculture Directorate.

In a statement, Arnous said that upon the directives of President Bashar Al-Assad, the government decided to finance the production and distribution of 250,000 saplings for free to different provinces.

Celebrating Arbor Day is importance not only in terms of vegetation, but also in terms of the safety of the environment and the unity of the human goal in the face of the dangers of nature,” Arnous added.
