Nasrallah: ‘Huge Quantities of Oil and Gas in Syria One of Reasons behind Targeting the Country’

BEIRUT, (ST)- One of the reasons behind targeting Syria is the existence of huge oil and gas wealth in the country’s lands and sea, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of the Lebanese Hizbollah resistance movement, has underscored, saying that the US runs the oil and gas battle in the region and it has maintained its presence in areas to the east of the Euphrates because the most important Syrian oil and gas wells exist there.

 In a statement on Friday, Nasrallah said there are reports and studies saying that there is a huge wealth of oil and gas in the occupied Syrian Golan, therefore, the Israeli occupation entity tries to seize the opportunity and benefit from the US President Donald Trump’s presence as head of the current US administration as well as from the weak Arab situation and the crisis in Syria to obtain an American or international decision on annexing the Golan.

US kept part of Daesh to use it in implementing its anti-Syria Scheme

Hizbollah Secretary General  went on to say that the United States has kept part of Daesh terrorist organization in Syria to use it in implementing its aggressive schemes against the country.

The US troops didn’t leave Syria after the elimination of Daesh was announced. It kept part of this terror organization in the east and north of Syria and ensured them a safe haven in order to later use them in implementing its schemes in Syria, said Nasrallah.

He added that this behavior by the American occupation contradicts what Washington has previously announced about the presence of its troops in Syria being associated with Daesh elimination.      

Syria is defending itself against Israeli aggressive acts

On the Israeli recent aggression on the Syrian territories and the Syrian army’s downing of an enemy warplane,  Nasrallah said Syria is defending itself, pointing out that the decision to shoot down the Israeli warplane, which attacked a military base in Syria’s central region, was made by the Syrian leadership and the officers and soldiers of the Syrian army are the ones who downed the jet in a qualitative military achievement.  

On the situation in Lebanon, Nasrallah said the oil wealth in Lebanon belongs to the Lebanese and that the Lebanese state is united in defense of its oil resources.
