NAM States reiterate support for Syria’s right to restore the occupied Syrian Golan

BAKU, (ST)- Concluding their 18th summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, the head of states and governments of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) have reaffirmed their opposition of any actions that violate the unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, stressing the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and of non interference in its internal affairs.

In their final statement, the heads of states and governments of NAM called for an end to any threats of using force against countries or at least using force pursuant to UN Charter.

They condemned the support being provided by Israel to terrorist organizations in Syria and the savage crimes being committed by Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations and by other al-Qarda-affiliated terrorist groups.

They reiterated their support for Syria’s right to restore the occupied Syrian Golan, expressing their condemnation of the unilateral and illegal declarations issued by the US President Donald Trump, including the one in which he recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Syrian Golan.

The final statement called for a clear-cut Security Council’s condemnation of the US provocations which violate international law and UN principles, objectives and resolutions, particularly the Security Council Resolution No. 497 of 1981 which considers all the steps taken by Israel to change the legal or demographic status of the occupied Syrian Golan as null and void.

The statement also expressed NAM states’ rejection of all forms of unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the US and the European countries on Syria and on NAM countries to serve certain political agendas. It stressed  that the coercive measures imposed on Syria badly effect the Syrians’ lives and violate the international law and the UN Charter, calling for lifting these measures immediately.
