NAM Foreign Ministers Condemn Terrorism Targeting Syria, Call for Israel’s Immediate Withdrawal from Occupied Syrian Golan

BAKU, (ST)- Concluding their 18th meeting in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku on Saturday, the Foreign Ministers of the Countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) condemned the terrorism targeting Syria and voiced their solidarity with the countries which have been suffering from terrorism.

 In the meeting’s final document called “Baku Political Declaration”, the ministers condemned all the crimes and inhuman acts comitted by Daesh (ISIS) and al-Qaeda terrorist organizations and by their affiliated terrorist entities in Syria, Iraq, Libya and other countries, noting that the impacts of this terrorist threat is not confined to these countries but it is being expanding to other countries of the world.

 The ministers also condemned the aggressive acts being perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against Syria, including recent missile attacks and the Israeli support for the terrorist organizations in Syria’s southern region. They voiced their solidarity with Syria and called for holding Israel accountable for its aggressive acts.

The ministers reiterated the need to reach a peaceful and political solution to the crisis in Syria through an inclusive political process led by the Syrians based on Geneva document and the Security Council Resolution No 2254.

They urged delivering humanitarian aid to those in need, expressing their deep concern over the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria and which badly affect citizens living.

The NAM foreign ministers affirmed their strong support for Syria’s just right to restore the occupied Syrian Golan and called on the Israeli occupation to immediately and unconditionally withdraw from the Golan to the June 4th, 1967 lines.

The declaration stressed Bandung Conference ten principles which call for respecting countries sovereignty, for not interfering in the internal affairs of countries, for peaceful settlement of conflicts and for not using force or threatening of using force in international relations.

The ministers renewed their call for making the Middle East free of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and urged Israel, the only party which possesses nuclear weapon, to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and to put its nuclear facilities under the inspection of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The Syrian Arab Republic took part in the 18th meeting of NAM Foreign Ministers in Baku and it was represented by Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

NAM was established in 1955 and it comprises 120 countries.
