Najwa Al-Sharif Excels in the Art of Colored Glass Mosaic

Visual artist Najwa Al-Sharif has excelled in creating her artwork with a remarkable creative touch through the craft of colored glass mosaic and glass painting.

Her work includes panels and decorations featuring botanical motifs, portraits, geometric shapes, as well as recycling art, creating artistic pieces, boxes, and various crafts using glass mosaic and some colored pottery.

She employs glass as a primary material, either in the form of sheets or small pieces, which she adheres using adhesives and insulating materials with various techniques and effects, distinguished by diverse artistic styles and designs.

Al-Sharif is dedicated to preserving heritage through traditional mosaic craft, and she seeks to explore new avenues. She explains that mosaics are among the most beautiful crafts and hold a unique historical significance linked to several ancient civilizations. They depict many issues and historical events while reflecting the cultural and religious identity of the region.

She has successfully created mosaic pieces using various techniques and materials such as glass and stone, or mother-of-pearl and ceramics, or organic materials .She uses small pieces and compositions of colored glass to create stunning light effects.

She has completed artworks depicting the neighborhoods of Damascus, nature, and literary and artistic figures, utilizing various techniques such as sculpting, engraving, printing, burning on wood, and painting on glass in a variety of colors. In her works, she has used earthy tones to express sadness and suffering, as well as warm and vibrant colors to convey strength.
