Multi-party cooperation is the way to overcome international challenges: Al-Mikdad

Multi-party cooperation is the way to overcome the international challenges, guarantee achieving the goals of sustainable development, meet development aspirations and enhance partnerships, Syria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad said on Friday during the 46th ministerial meeting of the G77 and China, held on the sidelines of the UNGA’s 77th Session.

Al-Mikdad hailed the continuous support of the G77 and China for Syria, including the annual draft resolution on the permanent sovereignty of the Syrian and Palestinian peoples on their natural resources. He also praised the Group’s support for the Palestinian cause and for liberating the occupied Syrian Golan and its rejection of the unilateral coercive measures that undermine all efforts to achieve development and prosperity.

He affirmed that Syria will continue with fighting terrorism, liberating its occupied lands and confronting the coercive measures which amount to economic terrorism, pointing out that Syria is looking forward to the Group’s continuous support for the Syrian state’s reconstruction efforts.

In a relevant context, Al-Mikdad met with Miguel Angel Moratinos, the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, and discussed with him international efforts to consolidate the spirit of dialogue, understanding, tolerance and peace among cultures and civilizations and to confront hatred and fight terrorism from which most countries of the world are suffering.

Moratinos hailed Syria’s historical position as the cradle of civilizations and as an example of tolerance, openness and coexistence.

Moratinos invited Al-Mikdad to attend the 9th International Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations scheduled to be held on November 22 and 23, 2022.
