DAMASCUS, (ST)_ The Republic Grand Mufti Dr. Ahmad Badr Eddine Hassoun, stressed the importance of making a distinction between the law and the Sharia and to be aware of terms that enemies of the people of Syria try to exploit in order to drive a wedge among the Syrians, calling for a good reading of history to take advantage of it in the making of a bright Syrian future.
During a ceremony, held to honor Sham University volunteering activists today, at the university premises, Hassoun said, “We must distinguish between the law and the Sharia,” noting that prophets had furnished for a civil and not a religious state and that there is a difference “between secularism and atheism and Syria is secular because it respects all its people ethnicities, and that diversity is a wealth and that prosperity of the State is manifested in a society and a system, while religion is but values , ethics and life. “
Mufti Hassoun considered that, thanks to the steadfastness of the united Syrian family, and the determination of the Syrians to defend it, victory will be achieved very soon, pointing out that the Syrians have built civilizations and we were a culturally advanced nation and that the Almighty God chose us to carry divine messages, and disseminate its light to the whole world, because our Islam is Global and our nationality conveys a humanitarian message, “pointing out that students are the hope the nation who will carry its values, banner and morals for consecutive generations.
“Syria is fighting for its position and to stand steadfast in supporting resistance,” the Mufti said, adding that “ what Syria had witnessed of great progress in all walks of life during the last ten years, and people’s rallying under the leadership of its President terrified the West and made it reconsider their positions, and thereby the conspiracy was fabricated.”
Mufti Hassoun appealed to God Almighty to protect Syria, its army, people and leader.
For his part, president of Alsham university Dr. Yasser Hourieh stressed that Syria will return better than it was before, thanks to the efforts of its people, in seeking education and knowledge, pointing to the development of education in Syria, through the creation of private and public universities in several country’s governorates.
In their turn, President of Alsham university Branch of the National Union of Syrian Students Anwar al-Sit, and head of the university ‘s volunteers team Mohammed Sirwan stressed the importance of the role played by youth in the nation-building and its future through launching volunteering humanitarian campaigns and activities in the service of the devastated Syrians, as a result of the current crisis.
