Mrs. Asma Al-Assad meets with families of 80 martyrs who were victims of the terror attack on Military Academy in Homs

Over the past days, First Lady Asma Al-Assad met separately with families of 80 martyrs who were victims of the terrorist attack that targeted the graduation ceremony of the cadets of the Military Academy in Homs on October 5th, 2023. Most of the martyrs were civilians who came to attend the graduation ceremony of their sons. Each martyr has a story, a dream and an aspiration.
October 5th was a bloody day. 13 mothers, 11 fathers, 19 brothers and sisters, 14 aunts and wives, 12 children and a number of graduated officers were martyred in this terror attack.

“During the war on Syria, many people lost their houses, jobs and source of livelihood. This is very difficult, but the families of martyrs suffered the biggest loss, as they lost part of their souls and sometimes, they lost their entire soul,” Mrs. Asma told the families of the martyrs.

“This massacre has resulted in massive loss to all of us. We lost mothers, sisters, children, university students, each one of them has his/her own story, dream and aspiration. But, despite the pain and pressure, we will never give up our principles, as your faith is the source of the real strength you have,” she said.

The First Lady went on to say: “I remember when Mr. President asked me at the beginning of the war to meet with the families of the martyrs, I thought about how I could relieve the pain of these families and how we could support them in their big loss. When I received each of you, I noticed that you are the ones who have the strength and solidity, because there was a deep faith inside each of you and you planted this faith in your sons before joining the military academy.”

Mrs. Asma pointed out that all countries of the world succeed through the wisdom of their politicians, and they fight with the strength of their army, and resist with the steadfastness of their people, especially the families of the martyrs, noting that “all wars in the world, regardless of the advanced weapons used, cannot defeat a people who decided not to be defeated, and you are the heart of this people”.
