Mrs. Asma Al-Assad discusses with PCB’s commission plan of increasing student loans to reduce the financial burden on them

First Lady Mrs. Asma Al-Assad has discussed with the General Commission of the Popular Credit Bank (PCB) and the Heads of the Bank’s branches in all provinces the plan of supplementing the PCB’s fund to increase monthly and individual loans being given to university students to reduce the financial burden on them and on their families.

The mechanism of delivering the loans to the largest possible number of students and the most needy students and expansion of services  in the future with the aim of meeting the needs of students were also on the table, according to the Damascus-based Al-Watan Newspaper.

The value of loans that were provided in 2021 to more than 15.000 students from the universities of Hasakah, Der Ezzour, Daraa, Sweida, Hama, Tartous, Lattakia, Homs, Aleppo and Damascus reached SYP 4 billion.

On the 23rd of March, President Bashar Al-Assad issued Legislative Decree No. 4 for 2021, that exempts student loans granted by the Student Credit Fund from all fees and stamps.

President Al-Assad had instructed the Cabinet to provide a financial assistance to the Student Credit Fund account with a value of 5.200.000 Syrian Pound, raising the fund’s total capital to SYP 6 billion.
