MP Nabil Toumeh to ST: UN Turns Blind Eye to Victims of Foreign-Backed Terrorists’ Daily Attacks on Damascus

Syrian Member of Parliament has said that the foreign-backed terrorist groups’ breach of truce deals in the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus reflects a strife within the groups between those who seek settlement and those who want to fight to the end.

Dr. Nabil Toumeh told the Syriatimes e-newspaper that the Syrian government will accept a new truce that stipulates the surrender of the weapons of the armed groups in the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus.

“The Syrian government may also accepts the departure of armed groups to the place they want to go,” he added, asserting that these armed groups seek to keep their individual gains.

“The foreign-backed armed groups [moderate opposition] reject to surrender to the Syrian army and to give up their weapons because they want to keep their individual gains and to achieve something on ground,” Dr. Toumeh said, affirming that these groups have nothing to do with politics.

He underlined that the Syrians can defeat terrorism when western and regional countries stop their support for terrorist-groups in the country.

Commenting on United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres’s concern over escalation in Eastern Ghouta and its devastating impact on civilians, Dr. Toumeh said: “ As a Syrian citizen and a member of parliament I would like to ask Mr. Guterres, who is just concerned about the people being held by armed gangs living in tunnels and targeting civilians in Damascus, why he does not express his concern over the innocent persons being killed daily by terror mortar and rocket attacks on Damascus city.”

Politically, opposition must not adopt language of killing

He also asked why supporters of the so called ‘armed Syrian opposition’, that holds civilians as human shields and daily fires scores of mortars and rockets on innocent people in Damascus city and other areas in Syria, were not condemned.

“In politics, opposition shouldn’t adopt the language of killing. However the so-called ‘moderate opposition’ in Syria, on a daily basis, kill innocent civilians mostly children, women and elderly amid complete silence by the international community,” he said.

The MP, in addition, referred to contradictions inside the United Nations Security Council over how to address the crisis in Syria.

Russia and China have voted against several resolutions presented by the United States, France and the UK which support the so-called ‘moderate opposition’ in Syria.

The US, France, the UK and other regional countries – Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey- seek to destroy and partition Syria through their tools, namely ‘armed moderate opposition’ in accordance with a US-Zionist plot that aims to fragment the whole region and to have hegemony over its wealth.

The liberation of the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus from terrorist organizations means victory of Syrian Army over the US , French, British, Saudi and Zionist intelligence agencies.
