MP Marie al-Bittar to ST: Iraq’s Kurdistan Independence Referendum Comes within Fragmentation Plot Prepared by the West
Syrian Member of Parliament Marie al-Bittar has underscored that Iraqi Kurdistan independence will never happen, pointing out that the Kurds have rights just like Arabs and their demands must be negotiated.
Speaking to the Syriatimes e-newspaper’s journalist via WhatsApp on Wednesday, the MP said:” Iraqi Kurdistan independence will never happen because it means cutting part of Iraq, but we must be aware of the serious fragmentation project and its repercussions on the whole region.”
She believes that the Iraqi Kurdistan independence referendum held on September 25th is a grave step in the light of the chaos the region is going through.
“The Kurds have rights just like Arabs and their demands must be negotiated,” al-Bittar stressed, indicating that the Iraqi Kurdish leader Masouad Barazani is the one who wants independence and not the Kurds.
She doubted the reliability of the results of the referendum, asking: “Was there an international observation of the referendum?”
Al-Bittar warned that the west may exploit the repercussions of the referendum which comes within the fragmentation plot prepared by the west and Israel. “There must be political and diplomatic solutions to avoid this project,” she said.
She affirmed that the Kurdish region in Iraq has internal problems and that the term of its leader [ Bazarani] has expired.
Effects of Kurdistan independence
As for the effect of the Iraqi Kurdistan independence on neighboring countries, the MP underlined that it has no effect on Syria, but it has effects on Iran and Iraq.
“”Iran’s regional security will be threatened as the Zionist investment size in Erbil is known to everyone…However, the greatest damage will be inflicted upon Iraq, which still suffers from wars and western interventions,” al-Bittar said, asserting that Turkey has good relations with Erbil as Barazani supported Racep Tayyip Erdogan in his elections.
The MP concluded by saying that the interests of regional and western countries in the independence of the Iraqi Kurdistan will be clear after the announcement of the referendum’s results.
The results of the referendum will not be recognized by the Iraqi government.
It is worth noting that the Russian Ministry of Defense recently released aerial images- taken from September 8 to 12- showing US Army special units provide free passage for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) through the battle formations of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorists.
“From the footage, the Americans and the SDF seem to be quite at leisure, they are not expecting any attack any time soon, the director of the Gnosos think tank Ammar Waqqaf told RT.
“In this case, securing IS assistance for an unopposed advance of US- backed SDF forces could enable the SDF, widely seen as a US proxy, to seize strategically important (and oil rich) territory in Deir ez-Zor that otherwise would soon be retaken by the rapidly advancing Syrian Army. If so, this once again will raise questions as to what the true purpose of US forces – purportedly in Syria to fight IS – actually is.”
Earlier in September, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov accused the SDF of collusion with ISIS terrorists.
“SDF militants work to the same objectives as IS terrorists. Russian drones and intelligence have not recorded any confrontations between IS and the ‘third force’, the SDF,” Konashenkov said.
