MoU between Syria and WFP on enhancing social protection system

Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the World Food Program (WFP) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in enhancing social safety network programs and the social protection system in Syria.

The memo was signed by Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Louay al-Munjid and the World Food Program’s country Director in Syria Kenn Crossley.

It aims at supporting families that have persons with disabilities, elderly persons or pregnant women, as well as families, whose only breadwinners are women, and other vulnerable families.

“The memorandum aims to benefit from the WFP’s experience in establishing social protection networks in Syria, adding that the social protection system will be built entirely with national expertise to meet citizens’ needs”, Al- Munajjed told reporters.

Crossley, for his part, said that the Program will support the ministry’s efforts to provide support to the targeted groups, noting that the difficult circumstances facing the Syrian people require more assistance to various vulnerable categories.
