Moscow and Washington call on all states to prevent terrorists in Syria from receiving support

MOSCOW– Russia and the United States issued a joint statement on Monday, in which the two sides called on all states to prevent terrorists in Syria from receiving support.

In the statement, Russia and the US stated that they will take steps to pinpoint the areas under the control of ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations in Syria, according to SANA.

The two sides affirmed their support for the cessation of hostilities agreement in Syria and for bolstering the efforts to reach a political solution via the UN-sponsored Geneva talks.

The statement said that Moscow and Washington confirm that progress has been made in consolidating the cessation of hostilities agreement and in delivering humanitarian aid, adding that the two sides’ efforts in this regard have resulted in lowering the scale of violence drastically in northern Lattakia and the Eastern Ghouta in Damascus Countryside.

The two countries also called on all states to apply UN Security council resolution No. 2253 to prevent any country or side from offering any form of assistance to ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra or any other organizations included on the UN list of terrorist organizations.

On the political level, Moscow and Washington announced they will intensify their efforts to achieve a political settlement to the crisis in Syria in accordance with UNSC resolution No. 2254 and through conducting the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva under the umbrella of the UN.
