Moscow wants to strengthen dialogue with Washington on the situation in Syria

Moscow (ST): The Russian ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov affirmed his country’s desire to strengthen dialogue with the new US administration on the situation in Syria, Afghanistan, the DPRK and the countries of the region.

Sputnik news agency quoted Antonov as saying in statements published on Facebook: “It is in Russia’s interest to unite efforts in combating the Covid-19 pandemic, terrorism, the spread of weapons of mass destruction and climate change, as well as continuing the joint space program and protecting the Arctic environment.”

Regarding the American allegations about the human rights situation in Russia, Antonov stressed that they are “unacceptable” and said: “No one has the right to teach us how to live.”

Antonov denounced the “hysteria” that was broadcast regarding the Russian activist Alexei Navalny, explaining that the latter was a Russian citizen who was convicted of economic crimes by a Russian court according to the law.

Antonov described as  absurd the calls for Navalny’s release stressing that they are “categorically rejected,” noting that these actions are called in international practice interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.
