Moscow: UNSC Statement on Homs One-Sided

MOSCOW, (ST) _The Russian Foreign Ministry  stressed that the UN Security Council  draft resolution on the events in Homs, was biased and one-sided.

“The draft Resolution  addressed the Syrian government  to cease fire   but did not condemn acts committed by ” armed opposition ” in using  civilians as human shields .” The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement yesterday.

The statement added that the  Russian side proposed to make the text more balanced through expressing  concern over the two besieged   towns of  Nobol and al-Zahra in rural Aleppo by ” opposition fighters”  and that the proposals were ignored

The statement continued  that the  Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs request  to the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent to  transfer  humanitarian aid to the people of Homs and ensure “humanitarian corridors” for that was not taken into account.

In another context, spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Ukashević stressed that  ” Doha coalition ” has to express  willingness to send its representatives to Geneva  international conference on Syria without preconditions and  find concrete  dimensions for a  political solution the crisis in Syria, according to Geneva statement.

He announced in Moscow’s readiness to make contacts with “coalition of Doha to  end  the crisis in Syria and stop the suffering of the Syrian people through a  comprehensive national dialogue , with full respect for national sovereignty, unity and integrity of the Syrian territory ,without foreign intervention, pointing that initial statements made by new head of  “Doha coalition” do  not reflect his commitment to a political solution , a matter which raises a number of questions about the future work  of the “coalition.”

Earlier last week , the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after a meeting with his U.S. counterpart John Kerry in Brunei that the US recognizes that the key to a political solution to the crisis in Syria is now  bringing in  and consolidating “the Syrian opposition” on the basis of  Geneva statement issued June 30 , 2012.
