Moscow: The only way to ensure security in Syria is for the state to regain control over its entire territory

Moscow (ST): The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the only way to ensure security in Syria is for the Syrian state to regain control of its entire territory, calling for an investigation into the killing of civilians during the operation carried out by a US commando unit to kill the leader of the terrorist organization “ISIS” called “Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Qurashi” in the northern countryside of Idleb.

Russia Today website quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying, commenting on Washington’s announcement of the killing of “Al-Qurashi,” “The only way to ensure security in Syria is to restore the legitimate Syrian authorities’ control over the entire territory of the country.”

She indicated that choosing Idlib as a  hiding place for  the leader of the terrorist organization “ISIS” in is “evidence that this area, which is not controlled by the authorities of the Syrian Arab Republic, is still used by international terrorists as a safe haven,” noting that “this confirms the necessity of the need to eliminate the terrorist stronghold in Idleb as soon as possible” and that “the continuation of the current situation is in the interest of terrorist groups.”

Regarding the information about the killing of civilians during the American operation, Zakharova said that this requires “careful investigation,” calling for “the need to accurately verify the targets during the planning and implementation of accurate operations using force, in order to exclude civilian casualties.”

Zakharova pointed out that “Russia has contributed in a decisive part to defeating the hotbed of international terrorism on Syrian territory.”
