Moscow: The European Union Tries To Hide Its Involvement with the Kiev Regime

Moscow (ST) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Vershinin, affirmed that the European Union is trying to cover up its involvement in the Ukrainian war crimes, by seeking to establish a ‘special independent international tribunal’.

Vershinin said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Moscow was not surprised by the talk of the anti-Russian delegation at the United Nations, including the member states in the EU about the establishment of an ‘international tribunal’ on Ukraine.

He added: “These countries, in their anti-Russian fervor, are ready to commit a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter.

Vershinin continued: “The EU that is  participating in the allocation of billions and arm supplies to Ukraine is trying to hide its involvement in the collective war crimes committed by the Ukrainian forces”.

The Russian diplomat stressed that this ‘ridiculous initiative’ would not be legitimate, but rather ‘legal nonsense’. He said that the establishment of such a tribunal or any other false tribunal, without the participation and consent of Russia, is legal nonsense, and that Russia will never recognize its rulings.

He stressed that the European Parliament’s decision regarding Russia as a ‘state sponsor of terrorism’ has no legal power, and shows an unprecedented level of hostility of European representatives towards Russia.

Vershinin added, “Unfortunately, the European Parliament continues to formulate its anti-Russian texts, instead of resolving the real issues of the residents of the EU member states and carrying out its duties. Apparently, discrediting Russia has become a main goal for the European Parliament which is ready to use all the possible methods to achieve it”.

The European Commission proposed at the end of last November the establishment of a special independent international tribunal on Ukraine under the auspices of the UN. The document deliberately does not refer to the fight against impunity for crimes committed in Ukraine, which was approved by the EU Council on the 9th of this December.

Earlier, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, denounced the EU’s proposal to establish this special court, saying that his court is able to deal effectively with the matter.
