Moscow (ST) – Russia emphasized to UN representatives the importance of implementing the deal to export Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.

Russian RIA Novosti news agency quoted a Russian Foreign Ministry statement as saying, “A detailed exchange of views took place on the implementation of the grain deal proposed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, in order to overcome the crisis in the field of global food security”. He indicated the need to ensure constant supplies of grains and fertilizers to the country’s most in need of them.

The statement assured of the importance of the agreements, their full implementation, and their linkage, especially the Black Sea initiative of exporting Ukrainian foodstuffs that expires on 18th of next month and the 3-years-period of the UN-Russian memorandum about exporting Russian fertilizers and agricultural products.

In turn, the Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations described the discussions that took place in Moscow as positive and constructive.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin discussed in Moscow with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Martin Griffiths and Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development “UNCTAD” Rebeca Grynspan the grain export deal and other related issues.

It is noteworthy that agreements were reached on the export of grain from Ukraine through the Black Sea last July for a period of 120 days, ending in the second half of next month.
