Moscow: No ban on exporting weapons to Syria

Moscow – Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that there is no ban on exporting weapons to Syria and Moscow’s cooperation with Damascus is continuous, adding “the only aim to offer military aid to Syria is combating terrorism.”

Zakharova, in a press statement, said Russia is astonished at Bulgaria’s rejection to open its airspace to the Russian airplanes which transport humanitarian aid to Syria, affirming that the transported cargo onboard the Russian plane was humanitarian aid which is allocated to the civilians, SANA reported.

“Nevertheless, there is not any ban on exporting weapons to Syria,” she added.

Zakharova went on to say that her country was disappointed with the US State Department’s rejection to comment on reports referring to pressures practiced by Washington on the Bulgarian authorities in order to close their airspace to prevent the Russian airplanes from crossing into Syria.

In a relevant context, Zakharova pointed out to Moscow’s readiness to cooperate with the EU in the domain of refugees, saying “we reiterate our willingness to a constructive participation with the EU in the field of immigration and seek a solution to this dangerous crisis in Syria.”
