MOSCOW, (ST)- The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that it is conducting consultations with a number of western and regional countries aiming to lift the unilateral economic measures imposed on Syria.
Sputnik quoted representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Nicolai Burtsev as saying in a meeting on Monday at the headquarters of the Joint Coordination Centre of Russian Defense and Foreign Ministries dealing with the issue of displaced Syrians, that the foreign ministry is making consultations with foreign partners to lift the economic sanctions imposed on Syria and to provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrians. He stressed that the consultations are continuous with all western and regional partners.
Burtsev noted Russia’s efforts along with some states and international organizations aiming to rebuild the infrastructure damaged by terrorism in Syria.
On the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland, the Russian diplomat said “countries like Lebanon is ready to cooperate with Russia on the issue of the displaced Syrian citizens’ return, but there are some European countries like Lithuania that puts conditions for cooperation with us such as getting relevant information from the authorities of the European Union.”
A new batch of displaced Syrians returned on Monday from Lebanon to their villages and towns in Qalamoun in Damascus countryside across al-Zamrani crossing.
