MOSCOW- Russia has called on members of UN Security Council to convene Friday to discuss an initiative by UN Special Envoy for Syria Steffan de Mistura to personally accompany “Jabhat Al-Nusra” fighters if they agree to leave eastern Aleppo to other parts of Syria, according to RT.
The proposal is aimed at sparing civilians from falling victim to the ongoing clashes, de Mistura said.
On Wednesday, the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA reported that the General Command of the Syrian Army and armed forces said that in order to prevent bloodshed and avoid more sabotage, it gives gunmen in Aleppo’s eastern neighborhoods an additional opportunity to benefit from amnesty decree and settle their status, or hand over their weapons and leave with their families.
The General command added in a statement that “We call on all gunmen in the eastern neighborhoods not to wait for any assistance from any one as all supplying routes became cut off and there is no chance for them, but handing over their weapons.”
The General command also decided to reduce the airstrikes and artillery fire on terrorists positions in eastern Aleppo areas in order to facilitate the exit of the locals who want to leave and who have been used by the terrorist groups as human shields.
