Moscow announces Russian, US consultations on Syria

 

Moscow – Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that Russian, US consultations on the level of envoys will be conducted on settling the crisis in Syria.

Maria Zakharova, Spokesperson of the Russian foreign Ministry said that Special Representative of the Russian President, Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov will meet on Friday the US Special envoy for Syrian Affairs Michael Ratney who is on a visit to Moscow nowadays, SANA reported.

 She affirmed that the Syrian army assumes the main burden in fighting international terrorists and extremists, adding “In spite of the air strikes of the US-led coalition, they failed to put an end to terrorists.”

Zakharova expressed her country’s condemnation of crimes of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist organization against residents in Syria.

She reiterated that the developments of situation affirm the need for implementing the Russian President’s initiative to form a wide front to combat terrorists with the participation of Syrian and Iraqi armies.    

Since the beginning of August, Moscow has conducted intensified consultations with different Syrian sides and international players on the crisis in Syria.
