More than 800 displaced families return to Marret Al-Nouman city in Idlib after clearing it of terrorism remnants

Marret Al-Nouman city in Idlib southern countryside witnessed this morning the return of more than 800 families, who were displaced from their areas by terrorist organizations, after their city has been cleared of terrorism remnants and after authorities have secured basic services to this area, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

An official and public celebration was held to welcome the returnees.

Idlib Governor Thaer Salhab told SANA that work started with removing the rubbles from the city’s streets and then securing necessary services, including drinking water, electricity, bakeries and schools, for the returnees to help them stay in the city.

Mohammad Hussein Al-Badour, one of the returnees, who is a breadwinner of a family of 5 members, said “we haven’t seen our city since the terrorist groups displaced us from our homes 8 years ago. Today, I feel very happy for seeing my house gain.”

Badi’a Younis Al-Shikhneh, on her part, said that she returned with her sister from Lattakia province to their house and area in Maaret Al-Nouman where they were born and where they have beautiful memories. “We checked our house. It has minor damage which we will spare no effort to fix so that we can stay and start a new life,” she added.

Some of the returnees also expressed their happiness for seeing their city again, stressing that the measures taken by the government will contribute to increasing the number of citizens who seek to return.
