The seasonal floods in Sudan this year have killed more than 80 people and destroyed thousands of homes.
France-PresseAgence reported that 84 people were killed and 67 injured in eleven states of Sudan, since the rainy season started, according to Mr. Abdul Jalil Abdul Rahim, the spokesman for the Sudanese Civil Defense General Administration. He stated that the victims died by drowning, electrocution or by the collapse of their homes.
He added that the floods destroyed about 8,400 houses and damaged more than 72,000 houses across the country.
Every year, between June and October, Sudan witnesses heavy rains that lead to floods that destroy or damage property and infrastructure and damage agricultural crops. The Sudanese authorities had to declare a state of emergency for three months, because of the heavy rain which damaged thousands of people and completely destroyed thousands of houses.
