More than thirty international media organizations signed an open letter expressing their solidarity with journalists working in Gaza and calling for their protection and freedom to carry out their work.
The letter, coordinated by the committee to Protect Journalists and signed by international news agencies and media outlets, reads: “for about five months, journalists and media workers in Gaza – the only source of field reports from within the Palestinian sector – have been working in unprecedented dangerous conditions and at least 89 journalists and media workers in Gaza have died in this war, according to the committee to Protect Journalists”.
The letter stressed that journalists are civilians and the Israeli occupation authorities must protect them under international law, and those responsible for any violations of this protection must be held accountable.
