More than 20,000 tons of Syrian citrus fruits exported to Iraq during the past two months

DAMASCUS, (ST)-  The amount of Syrian citrus fruits exported to Iraq via the al-Boukamal border crossing during December, 2019 and January, 2020 has exceeded 20,000 tones.

Secretary of Al-Boukamal Crossing Customs Asem Iskander told SANA that 758 trucks carrying thousands of tones of Syrian citrus fruits have crossed into Iraq via al-Boukamal between December 4th, 2019 and January 30th 2020, pointing out that the exported amount reached about 20,000 tones.

On his part, Director General of the Local Production and Exports Support and Development Agency Ibrahim Mida said that “exporting this amount via one crossing is a “positive indication” particularly in the light of the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria.

He stressed the importance of the Transport Ministry’s recent decision to exempt Iraqi trucks from the fees when entering Syrian territories via the al-Boukamal outlet in facilitating and accelerating the process of exporting different kinds of agricultural crops.
