Former Czech foreign minister says lasting peace in the region can’t be attained without Syria
CAPITALS, (ST)- Former Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Kavan has called for lifting the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria by western countries.
In a statement to SANA correspondent in Prague on Saturday, Kavan said that keeping theses measures imposed amid the spread of coronavirus complicates issues and worsens the suffering of the Syrian people, stressing that it is in the interest of the international community to help Syria confront the novel virus.
Kavan, who noted the excellent historical relations between the Czech Republic and Syria, reiterated that lasting peace in the region can’t be attained without Syria. He hailing the role of the Syrian Arab Army in defeating terrorists and expressed hope that the Czech Republic will join efforts to help Syria surpass the outcomes of more than nine years of war.
The former Czech top diplomat expressed astonishment that western countries seek fighting the spread of coronavirus while they continue imposing economic sanctions on countries that suffer from the outbreak of coronavirus such as Iran.
Former Turkish minister calls for lifting the US and European sanctions imposed on Syria amid Coronavirus crisis
In Ankara, former Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Ertugrul Gunay has stressed that the sanctions imposed by the United Sates and the European countries on Syria is an official recognition by these countries of their failure in the war on the Syrian state.
In a statement on Saturday, Gunay said that these countries, which have supported terrorist groups in Syria, thought that their decisions will force Syria to surrender, but, this didn’t happen and Syria triumphed on terrorism.
The Turkish former minister made it clear that the current era through which all countries of the world are passing because of the outbreak of coronavirus, necessitates that the international community, particularly the World Health Organization, should assist Syria in its efforts to combat coronavirus and get what it needs of medicines and medical equipment necessary for this purpose through pressing to terminate the western sanctions and all forms of siege imposed on the country.
