Mokhiber: What Israel is doing in Gaza is genocide according to the definitions of the UN conventions
The former director of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Craig Mokhiber, confirmed that what “Israel” is doing in the Gaza Strip is genocide, as stated in the UN Convention Against Genocide.
“The world witnessed a mass massacre of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, while the United Nations completely failed to respond effectively to the situation,” Mokhiber said in a statement to Sputnik, pointing out that the United States obstructed the humanitarian ceasefire.
“This situation has been defined in the United Nations Convention Against Genocide and its elements have been identified, and it has appeared in Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, “he added.
“We must realize that the United States is not a mediator, but a party to the conflict on the side of Israel, providing billions of dollars in military assistance, intelligence cooperation and diplomatic cover, including in the Security Council to prevent any action that would bring Israel to justice, “Mokhiber said.
“It is an illusion to assume that Washington can play another role, as well as a large part of Europe… instead of seeing European leaders calling for the protection of human rights, we see them defending the aggression and gross violations of humanitarian law being carried out by Israel in the Palestinian territories, “he added.
“All specialists and experts at the United Nations are aware that the quartet for the settlement of the Middle East is not a reliable and ineffective institution,” mokhiber said, pointing out that “the members of the committee themselves should recognize this fact.
It is worth mentioning that the director of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in New York, Craig mokhiber, announced his resignation last Tuesday in protest at the way UN bodies were dealing with the situation in Gaza.
