Moallem Meets Ban Ki-Moon, Cuba, Ecuador FMs, Emphasizing the Need to Pressure States sponsoring terrorism to stop it

NEWYORK,(ST)_ Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem met yesterday evening on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Moallem explained the Syrian position and current developments, stressing the UN Secretary General role to maintain the principles and objectives of the UN Charter provide for respect for sovereignty and non-interference in its internal affairs.

The minister stressed the UN role in obligating its members to implement UN Security Council resolutions related to combating terrorism, especially resolution 2178, which aims to dry up sources of terrorism.

Talks also dealt with the mission of the UN Secretary General Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, and providing the necessary support for the success of his mission away from any external interference.

He added that arming and funding of the so-called “moderate opposition” prolong the crisis and disrupt the political solution.

Within the same context, Moallem met with Cuba and Ecuador foreign ministers Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, and Ricardo Batiloaaroka, respectively.

He explained developments in the region, especially the terrorist crimes committed by “Daesh and al-Nusra front,” and other terrorist organizations and the need to put pressure on states sponsoring terrorism to halt it.

Talks noted the UN charter norms and rules of the international law respect for states sovereignty, their territorial integrity and inadmissibility of any actions that affect the sovereignty of states outside the framework of the UN Security Council resolutions.

Moallem warned against the alliance’s different agendas, which includes countries conspired against Syria and supported terrorism.

The Cuban and Ecuadorian ministers said they will inform Latin American countries on the reality of what is happening in Syria so as to voice support for the Syrian position.

The two meetings were attended by Dr. Faisal al-Miqdad, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Bashar Jaafari, Syria’s delegate Permanent Representative to the UN, Ahmed Arnous Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, UN deputy secretary general l Jan Eliasson, and the UN two assistant Secretary General, Jeffrey Feltman and Valerie Amos.
