Moallem Discussed with President Abbas, Iran, Angola and Lebanon FM, Combating terrorism, Draining its resources

NEWYORK,(ST)_Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem met yesterday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, on the sidelines of the meetings of the UNSC 69th session.

Talks dealt with the situation in Palestine and the Israeli aggression against Gaza and the need back efforts to restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially the establishment of their independent state in the Palestinian territory with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Palestinian president noted continued coordination and consultation with the Syrian government, and Moallem stressed Syria’s support for the Palestinian issue.

Talks dealt with means of combating terrorism, draining its resources and bilateral relations.

Moallem also discussed wit the Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, the situation in the region and the fight against terrorism and conspiracy exposed on the region by “Daesh and al-Nusra front ” and other terrorist organizations, the need to stop countries supporting terrorists, and to cooperate with the countries concerned, particularly Iraq and Syria to implement UNSC resolutions related to combating terrorism

Talks also dealt with bilateral relations and the importance of fostering them in light of the risks faced by the region.

Moallem also explained to  Angola Foreign Affairs minister George Rebelo Chikothi the fight against terrorism faced by Syria and Iraq imposed by “Daesh and al-Nusra front ” and other f al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist organizations and the need to coordinate with concerned countries, particularly Syria and Iraq to implement UNSC resolutions concerned.

Viewpoints were identical countries on the need that terrorism supporting countries, to stop its armament, training and funding, and continued bilateral coordination in light of Angola upcoming membership in the UN Security Council.

Moallem also discussed with the Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.

The meetings were attended by Deputy foreign affairs and expatriates Minister Dr. Faisal al-Miqdad, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari and Ahmad Arnous Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
