Mistura Says Homs Terror Attacks Attempt to Derail Geneva Talks

GENEVA-The United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura considers it necessary to prevent terrorists from derailing the Geneva talks, which meets the interests of all sides involved, according to his statement obtained by TASS.

When commenting the terror attacks in the Syrian city of Homs, de Mistura said that he vigorously condemns the act of terrorism that took place in Homs on Saturday, and considers it to be “an attempt to derail the ongoing intra-Syrian talks.”

According to UN Special Envoy, “there are always those willing to hinder the negotiations process.” “It serves the interests of all Syrian sides opposing terrorism and adhering to a political process in Syria, to prevent those attempts to succeed,” he said, according to Tass.

Prior to his meeting with the Syrian governmental delegation headed by Bashar Jaafari, Staffan de Mistura said he hoped the terrorist attack in Syria’s Homs would not affect the round of intra-Syrian peace talks in Geneva that started on February 23.

Earlier on Saturday terror attacks hit Ghouta and Mahatta areas in Syrian Homs killing 32 people. More than 30 were reported injured.
