Miqdad: the War on Terrorism Must not be Media Shows (2)

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Faisal al-Miqdad stressed that the war on terrorism should not be mere public relations or media shows, but must involve all countries that suffer from terrorism.

Miqdad said in an interview to Russian Today RT TV yesterday that “Syria is fighting terrorism relentlessly since more than three years and its absence from conferences held on terrorism, as happened in Jeddah or Paris and other important countries cast a lot of doubts about these conferences”.

He pointed out that Iran, together with Syria are waging a relentless war on terrorism and terrorists, but some countries want to put sticks in proper confrontation of terrorism, by creating  maneuvers preventing Iran participation.

” Syrian-French relations, in particular and relations with some European countries in general, do not encourage Syria to attend such conferences even if it had been invited,” Miqdad said, noting that certain countries violated UNSC recent resolution 2170 which calls for fighting “Daesh “and “ al-Nusra Front” terrorist organizations and to combat terrorism in Syria and Iraq, but officials of these countries, talked only about combating Daesh in Iraq and ignored fighting al-Nusra front and other terrorist factions existed in Syria.

He stressed that UNSC resolutions necessitate any alliance to fight terrorism to respect states sovereignty, and independence and not to exceed the limits of international law during the fight against terrorism.

Miqdad indicated that Saudi Arabia and Turkey were, over the past years an integral part of supporting terrorism and terrorist organizations in Syria, including Daesh and provided them with everything to come and kill the Syrian people.

“The attempts made by western countries to maintain security contacts with Syria are still continuing and they know that the real address for the fight against terrorism is Damascus, because we are fighting against terrorism since at least three years, noting that ignoring Damascus is a direct expression of the lack of interest in a real war on terror under various unconvincing pretexts “.
