DAMASCUS,(ST)_ The Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections received yesterday from the Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Faisal al-Miqdad, who is also Chairman of the Central Committee of the presidential elections results of the elections that took place in the Syrian embassies abroad.
Head of the judicial committee of the Electoral Hisham al-Shaar said that the results of the election outside the country will be integrated with results at home and then final results will be announced.
Al-Shaar praised the tremendous efforts made by the Central Election committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, despite all the difficulties and obstacles as several states prevented Syrian citizens from performing their constitutional duty.
He pointed out that foreign delegations who came to Syria at the invitation of the Syrian Parliament speaker to keep up with the elections are entitled to appear at any polling station.
For his part, Miqdad said that the elections were conducted in 43 Syrian embassies abroad and number of voters exceeded 95 percent of names registered in the electoral lists in these embassies.
He explained that the political decisions taken by certain states to prevent the holding of elections on their territories are a violation of all international charters on human rights, noting that the great turnout of the Syrian citizens to the Syrian embassies in order to participate in the elections, unmasked all attempts made by Western propaganda over the past three years in expressing their high awareness in maintaining their country ‘s dignity and sovereignty and in declaring that they are against anyone who tries to attack Syria.”
Miqdad indicated two categories who are not entitled to vote : Citizens who are not 18-year old yet, and Palestinians living in Syria.
The delivery process of the results of the election was attended by members of the Supreme Judicial elections committee and members of the Central Election committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
