Miqdad discusses with his Chinese counterpart the development of bilateral relations and upgrading them to the best levels
Damascus (ST): Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Faisal Miqdad, and State Counselor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi, held a video meeting, during which they discussed various aspects of bilateral relations and ways to enhance them to serve the common interests of the two friendly countries and peoples. The two sides also discussed the situation and developments on the regional and international arenas.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Miqdad affirmed that the leaders of the two countries, President Bashar al-Assad, President of the Syrian Arab Republic, and President Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, have laid the foundation on which to work to develop relations between Syria and China, considering that this constitutes a real guarantee for the future of relations between the two friendly countries.
He praised the strategic relations between Syria and China and China’s supportive positions for the Syrian people in the face of the terrorist war imposed on them, as well as in the face of the repercussions of unilateral coercive economic measures, expressing Syria’s thanks to the leadership and people of China for the assistance it provided and continues to provide in all fields, especially those related to confronting the Corona pandemic.
Minister Miqdad affirmed Syria’s keenness to take more steps to enhance coordination and cooperation with China in all fields, especially in the economic field, stressing the importance of encouraging Chinese companies to take advantage of investment opportunities available in Syria and to contribute to reconstruction. The opportunities it provides and the importance of activating the work of the joint economic committee between the two countries.
Minister Miqdad praised China’s wise policy based on respect for international law and seeking to consolidate security and stability in the world, stressing the importance of China’s role, along with the role of Russia and other emerging powers in shaping a multipolar world away from unilateral Western hegemony.
In turn, the Chinese minister praised the steadfastness of the Syrian leadership and the Syrian people in the struggle against the Western attack on Syria and the results that Syria achieved by preserving its interests and defending its sovereignty and independence.
The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed his country’s keenness to maintain continuous communication with Syria and exchange views on issues of bilateral cooperation and issues of common interest, underlining the importance of continuing mutual support between the two countries in international forums and activating bilateral cooperation in all fields and benefiting from the fact that the two countries are partners in the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, pointing out that this initiative will provide an important ground for moving forward in revitalizing economic cooperation.
In this context, the Chinese minister noted the importance of resuming the meetings of the joint economic committee between the two countries and condemned the coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people illegally and the theft of the Syrian people’s wealth, describing this as unacceptable piracy.
