BEIRUT, (ST) _ Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati on Friday evening announced his government’s resignation.
The Lebanese national media agency quoted Miqati as saying in a statement at the government’s headquarters that the resignation comes ” to pave the way before the formation of a national salvation government,” adding: “there is no way for salvation in Lebanon only through dialogue.”
Miqati pointed out that the Lebanese Cabinet rejected the formation of an election supervisory body and that no consensus was maintained on extension for the Director General of the Internal Security Forces Major General Ashraf Rifi, whose presence, for Miqati, is a necessity in these circumstances in Lebanon .
