Ministry of Internal Trade, WFP discuss boosting cooperation

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Dr. Atef  Al-Naddaf  has discussed with a delegation from the United Nations  World Food Program ( WFP) , led  by Corinne  Fleischer, Representative and Country  Director of  WFP in Syria , means of enhancing cooperation relations between Syria and WFP.

During a meeting on Wednesday, the two sides discussed currently implemented projects as well as future projects that could be implemented in Syria in the light of the economic challenges Syria is facing due to the economic blockade and the unilateral coercive measures  imposed by the West on the Syrian people.

 Dr.  Al-Naddaf reviewed  the losses and damages caused to the economic structure and activities in Syria due to terrorist acts and coercive economic measures that hindered the flow of goods and materials, stopped commercial and industrial activities and banks’ work and impeded the implementation of the government plans and programs which aim at  improving the living condition of citizens.

He noted the priorities of cooperation with the WFP,  appreciating highly  the two sides’ cooperation in implementing joint programs  which aim at  improving and developing the economic situation and meeting the needs of citizens.

Al-Naddaf stressed the government’s keenness on supporting the  implementation of WFP ‘s programs in Syria and on facilitating the WFP’s mission in the country.

On her part , Fleischer asserted that the WFP seeks to continue working hand in hand with the Syrian government to carry out programs that contribute to achieving food security and meeting citizens’ requirements in cooperation with donor countries. The WFP is also keen on supporting the system of basic services in Syria in accordance with the program’s capabilities and authorities, she said, pointing out that  she  realizes  the  repercussions of unilateral coercive economic measures on all categories of the Syrian people.
