Ministry of Information marks the 75th anniversary of broadcasting “Here is Damascus”

Since its foundation in 1947, the Radio Damascus has broadcast pieces of news in one- minute and it has stood by just Arab causes and opened its platform for Egypt when the Egyptian Radio broadcasting stopped during the tripartite aggression on Egypt.

The 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Radio Damascus was celebrated by the Ministry of Information at Al-Assad Library in Damascus on Sunday evening.

Boutros al-Hallaq, the Minister of Information, conveyed President Bashar Al-Assad’s congratulations on the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the “Damascus” Radio and his pride in the sacrifices of journalists, who were martyred, during the war on Syria.

“The Radio Damascus has played a major role in shaping awareness and conscience, and until this moment, all national media is still waging a battle of awareness with professionalism and credibility in the face of a fierce media war targeting the state and society through continuous attempts to change concepts and break national principles, and this is what terrorist failed to achieve,” Hallaq said, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

Victory is inevitable

The minister spoke about the importance of coping with the modern media tools to foil the plots that target Syria’s unity and stability.

He added “The media cadres that fought alongside the Syrian Arab Army in its war against terrorism are today fighting fierce battles in the economic war and they are active partner in the process of development and stability, and victory is inevitable.”

“Honoring the martyrs of the media is a great honor…without them and the martyrs of the Syrian army, we would not have gathered today,” the minister concluded.

On behalf of media workers, Minister of Information extended to President al-Assad sincere congratulations and deep appreciation on the occasion of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Radio Damascus, thanking him for his generous and unlimited support for the media and journalists, pledging that our media will be a role model that respects the mind of the public, uplift the values of society and works with responsible freedom of expression.

It is noteworthy that Radio Damascus started its broadcasting from a simple building in Baghdad Street, with a small technical team and simple equipment, to be the second radio station established in the Arab world and the first to broadcast live and provide one-minute news briefs.
