The Ministry of Health on Tuesday received four ambulances, provided by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with funding from the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO).During a meeting held at the Ministry of Health, Acting Minister of Health Maher Al-Sharaa clarfied that efforts are being made to improve the health sector as quickly as possible by developing comprehensive health plans and programs for the next four years. This includes identifying needs and initiating change and development processes in the health sector. Al-Sharaa indicated that the Ministry looks forward to working and partnering with the Fund, particularly with regard to practical and educational matters and building the capacities of staff, in addition to issues related to mental and reproductive health and primary health care. He emphasized that lifting sanctions will significantly contribute to the development and advancement of the health sector.For his part, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Adam Abdel Mawla highlighted support for the health sector in Syria and development efforts related to early recovery in various sectors, particularly health. Reproductive health and infrastructure rehabilitation, noting that the political change in Syria has led to a positive change in people’s psychology, and efforts are underway to find solutions to suspend sanctions on Syria.Luigi Pandolfi, Director of the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Office (ECHO), noted that this grant is evidence of the partnership between the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), noting that the EU has provided extensive assistance in northern Syria, and that work is ongoing to strengthen the humanitarian response.
