The Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, discussed today with the delegations of the United Nations to Combat Crime and Drugs and the United Nations Development Program “UNDP” ways to enhance educational and awareness-raising cooperation and the possibility of implementing special programs to address the challenges facing young people in the field of drugs, crime and violence.
The Minister of Education stressed the need to develop a joint program to prevent youth drug abuse and crime, especially after Syria was exposed to a war that had brought with it psychological, social and economic pressures that led to a change in the behavior of young people towards immoral practices. He pointed out that preventing the occurrence of crime among the youth segment needs an understanding of its tools and means.
In turn, Dr. Hala Rizk, Director of the Social Cohesion and Local Development Team at the United Nations Development Program, underlined the importance of developing a unified future plan with the Ministry to work on it, which includes preventive programs for the problems faced by young people that are commensurate with the Syrian reality and directing these programs according to United Nations standards to help decision makers and institutions raise preventive awareness and adopt these programs.
