Ministry of Agriculture participates in the 26th session of the Near East Forest and Pasture Commission in Amman
Amman (ST): The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, represented by Director of Forestry, Dr. Ali Thabet, participated in the 26th session of the Forest and Pasture Commission for the Near East, which was held by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
Thabet explained that during the session, which was held from the 10th to the 13th of this September, the activities of the Food and Agriculture Organization and country activities in the region were reviewed, and the requests and recommendations of the 25th session of the Commission were followed up, and the developments and global initiatives related to the Commission and planning were discussed.
The session also touched on enhancing forest resilience through restoring mixed forest-pasture agricultural systems in order to mitigate the effects of drought and enhance knowledge exchange and South-South cooperation in order to improve dryland forests.
The participants also discussed women’s participation in non-timber forest products and pastoral value chains in the Near Eastern region and in the activities of the joint committee on Mediterranean forest issues between the African Forest and Wildlife Commission and the Near East Forest Commission.
