Ministries of culture and tourism plan to put Amrit archeological site into tourism investment

Minister of Culture Lubana Mushaweh and Minister of Tourism Mohammad Rami Martini on Saturday visited the archeological site of Amrit, south of the Syrian city of Tartous, as part of the two ministries’ plan to put this area into tourism investment.

The visit covered several places in this historical site, which dates back to the 3rd millennium BC, including the collective burial in Abu Afsa area, the burial towers called “al Maghazil”, the archeological temple and the playground.

The two ministers also inspected the excavation works in this area.

Minister Mushaweh told journalists that the joint project is the first of its kind to rehabilitate and improve the situation of the archeological areas architecturally and touristically, stressing that such areas constitute a real national treasure and noting that Amrit site contains several landmarks built over different historical periods, such as tombs, palaces, castles and towers.

On his part, Minister Martini said that the Syrian tourism sector is a joint production shared by both the ministries of tourism and culture and other public bodies.
