Minister of Water Resources Discusses Cooperation with German Delegation in Water and Sanitation field
Osama Abu Zaid, Minister of Water Resources, discussed today with the German Chargé d’Affaires in Syria, Margaret Jacob and the accompanying delegation, prospects of cooperation in the field of water and sanitation, as well as the challenges facing this work.
The Minister explained the situation of drinking water in Syria and the difficulties it faces, including malfunctions in pumps and other engines.
He noted the challenges facing the drinking water, sanitation and irrigation sectors, and the significant damage inflicted on this sector due to the destruction of infrastructure and energy sources.
This requires concerted local and international efforts to provide drinking water to those displaced in order to ensure their return to their original areas, he added.
For her part, Jacob confirmed Germany’s cooperation, both government and people, with the Syrian people. She stated that a study on cooperation mechanisms with the new government is underway, and work is being done to develop a plan for collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources to facilitate reconstruction efforts and improve water conditions by implementing certain projects in an organized manner.
She also expressed her happiness over the partial lifting of sanctions on Syria, looking forward to completely lifting the sanctions in the future.
