Minister of Oil discusses with a number of delegations at the Russian Energy Forum prospects of cooperation in oil and gas sectors
The Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Firas Qaddour discussed with the heads and officials of delegations of friendly and brotherly countries participating in the activities of the “Russian Energy Week” Forum, on its second day in Moscow, ways of developing and strengthening bilateral relations and prospects for cooperation with Syria in the oil and gas sectors.
During the meetings, held in the presence of the delegation accompanying Minister Qaddour, issues of expanding joint production capabilities in the fields of studies, drilling, exploration and refining were discussed, so that the oil and gas industry keeps pace with the level of the new energy reality in the world and withstands the challenges facing the oil markets and the problems of energy transport and provides training to the scientific personnel specialized in this field.
In his talks with representatives of the energy sectors in Russia, Iraq, Iran and Algeria, Minister Qaddour also touched on issues of exchanging experiences in the field of improving the performance of engineering and practical expertise in the oil industry, in which Syria had a major role and enormous scientific and practical capabilities. However, he explained, the terrorist war on Syria and the economic blockade against it have disrupted these capabilities and destroyed the majority of them. These encroachments caused severe damage to the oil and gas industry, and it became natural to search for sources that would help restore Syria’s capabilities to their previous and better level.
In his meetings, Qaddour presented a wide range of proposals for joint investment in the areas of studying and extracting the mineral resources that characterize Syria.
Representatives of the delegations promised to study these proposals and provide answers about them in the upcoming bilateral national meetings.
The Syrian Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, participated in the meetings.
In an interview, Minister Qaddour said: We came to Russia to participate in the Russian Energy Week, which is held annually this month. We attended the opening session and participated in a number of scientific lectures that addressed the future of energy in general. We talked about the future of Russian companies and other countries working in these fields. Qaddour added: We participated in the discussions of scientific lectures of more than 50 Russian and foreign companies participating in this annual event, and we learned about modern and advanced methods in the field of the oil and gas industry and in the field of energy in general.
Qaddour continued: “During the meetings with delegations of countries with which we have agreements or contracts, these agreements and contracts were reviewed, and it was agreed to increase cooperation between us regarding the oil and gas industry.”
