Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Safety and Security Affairs

Dr. Faisal Al-Mikdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met today Onassi Luto Funiwaka, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Security and Safety Affairs, and the accompanying delegation.

Al-Mikdad affirmed that cooperation with the Security and Safety Department of the United Nations General Secretariat and its representatives in Syria has prevented, over the years of the war, the UN crews from suffering any losses as a result of the criminal practices of armed terrorist groups.

Al-Mikdad pointed to the importance of this visit in terms of conveying the reality of the situation in Syria, particularly the restoration of stability and security in most of its regions, and in terms of explaining the size of the disaster that Syria is suffering, especially the devastation caused by the earthquake, and explainjng the need to lift the unilateral coercive sanctions imposed by the United States of America and the other Western countries on Syria, which have negatively affected the various aspects of life of the Syrian people and increased their suffering.

In her turn, Onassi Funiwaka praised the role played by the Syrian government in providing protection for United Nations personnel working in Syria, expressing appreciation for the facilities provided by the Syrian government to the Office of Safety and Security during the crisis and earthquake disaster, that led to a better response. She affirmed the readiness of the United Nations to cooperate with Syria in various areas of interest to both sides.
