Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Al-Shaibani, in a speech during the Ninth Brussels Conference for Donors on Syria
• The Syrian people celebrated their liberation from the Assad regime, but the suffering continues due to this regime.
• Meeting in Brussels is a moral duty in light of Syria’s plight and a genuine opportunity to enhance international efforts to alleviate the suffering of Syrians.
• Today’s donor conference includes true Syrian representation and comes at a time when our country has witnessed real political transformations.
• Syrians will not tolerate any violation of Syria’s sovereignty and unity. The government is working to strengthen reconciliation, national dialogue, and the protection of all citizens’ rights.
• The former regime exploited and misused the issue of minorities. We will not allow this issue to be used again, as we believe in citizenship and equality in rights and duties for all citizens.
• There are security threats to Syria from the former regime, militias at the borders, and Israeli incursions.
• We appreciate the positive steps taken by the European Union, including the suspension of some sanctions. However, these measures have not yet met the aspirations of the Syrian people.
• The continuation of sanctions means that the Syrian people are the ones being punished. They must be lifted, as they hinder Syria’s recovery.
Al-Shaibani: The reconstruction of Syria is not only a national responsibility but also a responsibility of the entire international community.
: The Syrian government reaffirms its commitment to working with humanitarian partners to ensure aid reaches those in need.
.We call on all donor countries to actively contribute to Syria’s reconstruction efforts and support sustainable development projects.
Al-Shaibani: The return of displaced persons to their homeland requires international efforts and contributions to revitalize the Syrian economy.
