Minister of Education receives the UNICEF Regional Director

The Minister of Education in the caretaker government, Mr. Nazir Al-Qadri, received a delegation from UNICEF headed by the Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa in the organization, Ted Chaiban, and his accompanying delegation. The Minister stressed the Syrian government’s priority for all Syrian children to return to their schools, especially those those students who’ve were previously unable to enter schools due to their displacement by the criminal regime over a period of 14 years.

“The priority of the Syrian people when they have the opportunity is education, which will take priority over anything else, as the citizen can do without many things in exchange for educating his children.” Al-Qadri added The minister noted the importance of food and rebuilding destroyed homes, but the priority is to build schools because that will enable the people to return to their cities and villages.

Al-Qadri presented the Ministry of Education’s thanks for what UNICEF has provided and continues to provide to the Syrian people, and expressed his happiness for the cooperation between the Ministry and the organization to support Syrian children wherever they are.

The Deputy Regional Director of the organization confirmed the organization’s readiness to provide support to return the educational process in Syria to the right path, and praised the cooperation with the Ministry of Education within the framework of UNICEF’s responsibilities towards the international community. He explained that there is a distribution of roles and integration between partners to support the Syrian government, expressing the organization’s readiness to mobilize greater capabilities to rehabilitate and restore schools.

During the meeting, it was agreed to further coordinate and work to achieve the plan to develop educational work and provide the requirements for its success.
