Minister of Education in the caretaker government Nazir Al-Qadri today met with a delegation from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).
The two sides discussed the educational situation in Syria and ways to support teaching staff and students to improve the educational process.
They also discussed the condition of the infrastructure of the educational facilities and their distribution, in addition to rehabilitation and reconstruction plans, joint work between the ministry and organizations to reintegrate drop-out students and future plans to support the educational staff.
Al-Qadri clarified that there is a special program aimed at compensating for the educational and linguistic loss of drop-out students in Syria, particularly those who studied in foreign languages in Turkey or Europe before enrolling in schools.
He highlighted the important work of international organizations in Syria and their humanitarian role, affirming the ministry’s commitment to facilitating this work to expedite the rehabilitation of infrastructure and educational staff, and to help students return to schools.
For her part, Julie Phelps, the country director of the Syrian response office at the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), confirmed the council’s readiness to assist in preparing a comparison between the Syrian curricula and other curricula that Syrian students abroad have studied. This will involve drawing up plans and strategies that support the rehabilitation of students and compensate them so that they can return to studying in Syrian schools.
