Minister of Education discusses enhancing cooperation with FAO

Damascus, (ST) – Dr. Darem Tabbaa, Minister of Education discussed today with the Representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Syria, Dr. Mike Robson, means of enhancing cooperation in the educational field between the two sides.

Tabaa stressed the importance of supporting rural schools, introducing and activating school gardens for secondary schools, caring for the environment and projects that serve sustainability.

He added that there is a need to benefit from production, enhance the vocational tendencies of students from the second to the ninth grade, explain interest in the agricultural environment and support vocational awareness about agriculture as well as agricultural and organic production.

The Minister of Education stated that the Ministry jointly with the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) started an experiment to strengthen the environmental and agricultural system in the National Center of Distinction by monitoring the growth of plants through cameras.

Tabaa stressed the need to create the profession of beekeeping at vocational schools, noting that a proposal was submitted to FAO in coordination with the Arab Beekeepers Union in Syria to create this profession at schools with the aim of employing education in community service and agricultural and environmental development.

In turn, Robson talked about enhancing areas of cooperation with the ministry through training cadres at agricultural and vocational schools, promoting school garden projects and enhancing the experience of rural schools.
