Minister of Agriculture: Most of the fires, erupted in northern countryside of Lattakia, extinguished

Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, highlighted the great efforts made by the cadres of the firefighting system and the good organization among them, as the largest number of fires were extinguished in the northern countryside of Lattakia, while efforts are still continuing to put out two fires in two locations only.

Minister Qatana said in a statement to SANA reporter: “The organization that took place in the past days, whether by distributing firefighting personnel or tanks, bulldozers and mechanisms, realized positive results on the ground, as we only have two fires, the first is in Mount Toros and the other in the Sukkariyeh region.”

The Minister who was accompanied by the Governor of Lattakia, Eng. Amer Hilal, pointed to the development of a work program to cool one of the sites, which was a source of concern, for fear of the fire spreading from it to other sites.

Minister Qatana explained that dividing fire sites into sectors, integrating roles and understanding between supervisors and workers in each sector helped to accomplish the firefighting mission efficiently. He indicated that a meeting is held at the end of each working day to assess the situation, performance, difficulties and errors and to develop an action plan for the next day.

The Minister of Agriculture noted the great role of the specialized workshops that were brought in to repair the machinery and tanks at work sites immediately and directly, in addition to providing 4 fuel tanks to supply the vehicles with fuel in their locations.

The firefighting teams of the Latakia Agriculture Directorate, civil defense teams and fire brigades from several governorates are participating in the firefighting operations, supported by units of the Syrian Arab Army and helicopters.
