Minister Makhlouf discusses with the delegation of the International Organization for Migration ways to activate its work in Syria

Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf, discussed with the delegation of the International Organization for Migration, headed by Eugenio Ambrosi, strengthening cooperation relations between the two sides, reopening the organization’s office in Syria, and working in accordance with the priorities determined by the Syrian Government.

Minister Makhlouf stressed during the meeting at the Ministry building today that the priority of the Syrian Government’s work is to provide everything necessary for the return of the displaced Syrians from abroad to their homeland and to create the appropriate conditions to encourage their return, pointing to the measures that have been taken in this context, foremost of which are the amnesty decrees and the facilities provided to the returnees, which contribute to their stability as work continues on the rehabilitation of infrastructure, basic services and damaged residential quarters.

Makhlouf pointed to the negative effects of unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries, in addition to the American and Turkish occupations, which affect the daily aspects of life and basic services for the Syrian citizen and negatively impact the appropriate conditions to encourage refugees to return to their homes and cities.

For his part, Ambrosi expressed his aspiration to revive and activate cooperation between the International Organization for Migration and the Syrian Government and to work in an atmosphere of mutual trust according to the priorities that are agreed upon, noting the support provided by the Ministry and the Higher Relief Committee for the success of cooperation and joint work.
